Publications Manager, TCG Books

Theatre Communications Group, the national organization for theatre, seeks a Publications
Manager to join the TCG Books program. The Manager, who should be based in the New York
City area, will report to Erin Salvi, Co-Publisher, and work closely with all members of the TCG
Books team as well as TCG Books’ distributor, Consortium Book Sales & Distribution. The
Publications Manager functions as a key member of the Books department, assisting with a
variety of elements of production, publication, distribution, and sales for the TCG Books

What You Need for this Role

The Publications Manager should have a commitment to TCG’s mission, core values, and its
ED&I work within the workplace and in the field. They should be collaborative, resourceful, and
be able to work productively with a diverse staff. Outstanding interpersonal communication
skills and exemplary work practices are essential, as are strong attention to detail and
dependability. The successful candidate will be adept at working both independently and with a
team, and have a commitment to learning and growth for oneself and others.
In addition to their work with the TCG Books department, the Publications Manager will also
have a strong collaboration with the Marketing and Communications departments, as well as
TCG Books’ distributor, Consortium Book Sales & Distribution, and TCG Books’ Partner
Publishers. In addition, the job requirements include:

• Strong commitment to anti-racism and inclusivity.
• 3-5 years experience in publishing, theatre, non-profit administration, or a related field.
• Excellent written and communication skills, as well as a strong editorial eye.
• Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong knowledge of and interest in theatre, publishing, or both.
• Creative problem-solving skills, with a talent for refining and improving systems.
• Ability to work cross-departmentally and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Working knowledge of Google Drive and Microsoft Office functionality, and ability to
learn new digital platforms and databases with relative ease.
• A sense of humor and good-natured attitude are strongly preferred.

What You Will be Doing

• Serve as primary liaison to Consortium Book Sales & Distribution, TCG’s distributor to
the book trade.
• Serve as primary liaison to TCG’s nine Partner Publishers (other drama publishers whose
books TCG distributes), including tracking and managing inventory, coordinating book
orders, and delivering quarterly sales reports.
• Manage metadata for nearly 3,000 active titles, and approximately 100 new TCG and
Partner Publisher titles each year.
• Prepare book files for eBook conversion, and coordinate eBook conversion and
• Coordinate all requests to reprint materials from TCG publications.
• Manage and update the TCG online bookstore.
• Execute special projects, including coordination of content for certain books.
• Work with TCG Books and Marketing departments to help develop marketing strategies
for TCG titles and plan author events.
• Work closely with other TCG departments, including Advertising, American Theatre
magazine, Membership, Marketing, Institutional Philanthropy, Individual Giving, and
Business Office to handle books-related inquiries and projects.
• Assist with other tasks as necessary to ensure the smooth working of the team.
