On a recent visit to San Francisco I was able to spend a day with my sister Veronica. The one thing I know about my sister is that she will provide me with the latest research on food and nutrition. Unlike me she loves to cook and has recently traded baking cheesecakes for nutritious meal preparation. Her new passion is showing clients how to prepare nutritious meals in thirty minutes or less. I am proud of her because she recognized that to be healthy and fit you have to prepare nutritious meals and exercise.
On the morning that I was to return home we went for a walk near the marina and breathed fresh air while looking at the San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance. By the time I departed I had a few new nutritious recipes that I could prepare at home. Since my visit I am conscious about my eating choices and after a trip to the grocery store was surprised when the cashier commented, "you sure have a lot of healthy food". It was at that point that I realized my sister had helped me to develop a "healthy appetite." Now it’s my turn to provide you the same type of help my sister gave me. I’ve been reading a lot of the responses from readers of this column who want to know how and what to do to get their financial house in order. I will devote the next three columns to your cause. This column deals with the most important wealthy habit of all------ " a wealthy appetite".
One of the reasons that my sister is so knowledgeable about health and nutrition is because when you enter her loft apartment there are loads of magazines on fitness and health. She has learned most of what she knows by reading and experimentation. It’s exactly what I do to keep abreast of the latest information on saving and investing. I read, analyze and then use the information to make decisions about my personal finances. I then share it through my books, radio programs and of course this column. My appetite for information on wealth building has developed throughout the years so read on and learn how you can feed your intellect and develop a wealthy appetite of your own.
• Wealthy Appetite Tip 1#
Review the business section of the newspaper.
In every major newspaper in America there are personal finance columns just like this one, which provide the latest information about saving and investing. Many of these personal finance columns are syndicated. Make it a habit to peruse the business section to learn something new about the financial markets, economy and corporate news everyday. You will be surprised how easy it is to begin to apply this information to your personal situation,
• Wealthy Appetite Tip #2
Subscribe to a personal finance magazine.
If you were to visit my home you would see several magazines and two of my favorites are Black Enterprise and Kiplinger’s Personal Finance. I’m sure that my sister and I developed our appetite for information from our father who subscribed to Time, Life and several other periodicals. You can save a lot of money by taking out subscriptions and will likely find all kinds of tips that you can use to increase your knowledge and confidence about wealth building.
• Wealth Building Tip #3
Books and Books on Tape
My recent trip to San Francisco was five hours one way and prior to my departure I purchased two books, which, I was able to finish by the time I returned home. If you want to learn about investing in stocks check out the book "Rule #1 by Phil Town it. It is the first book on how to research stocks that is easy to understand and I recommend it highly. If you don’t have time then most books can be purchased in an audio version, which you can read on your commute.
Everything you need to know in order to build wealth is at your fingertips. It will require effort on your part. You may not have a sister like mine who can show you what to do but the knowledge and the confidence you need to build wealth can be found in the pages of your favorite book or magazine. In my next column you’ll learn the next habit to putting your financial house in order-----A Wealthy Outlook.
